Milton Glaser is best known for his Bob Dylan poster and his "I Love New York" logo. It is said on that his work is best known for its directness, simplicity, and originality, (link) which can be seen in this piece. He has also designed everything from albums to advertisements.
I feel the color in this piece is used very well because it represents the the images they are put on well. For example cool colors and earth tones are placed on the the things that are considered background. By doing this, the images in the foreground that have warm tones are set apart from the background and also better represent the fire and hellish tone of the images/poster.
